Great wardrobes don’t just happen, they are built. It takes extraordinary care to curate a closet so that everything within it is suited to you, is wearable now and available when you need it. Having a closet that provides easy access to all your pieces certainly helps.
January is a great time to revisit the back of your closet, the bottom of your drawers, and the far-reaches of your shelves. Chances are, you probably have considerable potential hidden away there.
Pull it all out and sort according to usefulness. Consider altering pieces that may only need a tweak here or there...a skirt hem, a jacket shoulder or a new button treatment. Whether you have a small collection of essential pieces or a vast closet of vintage finds, the key is knowing that each item is pulling its weigh and providing you with what you want, as well as what you need. It might be a power suit that breeds confidence, your grandmother’s antique brooch that inspires fond memories, or a pair of perfect loafers that will comfortably take you through the day.
If some of those tucked away items are simply taking up valuable real estate, then it’s time to move them on. Visit a consignment shop, or donate to your favorite charity.
Once you have a clearer picture of what you have to work with, you’ll be able to more accurately assess your needs going forward. There are some truly wonderful pieces being offered next season; make room!
